Best Use of Critical Communications for Public Safety
This award will focus attention on entries that display excellence in the public safety sector. Judges will be looking for evidence of safeguards being in place for data security, full adoption of the capabilities of Critical Communications across a range of platforms, scalability, interoperability, efficient use of bandwidth and, crucially, reliability.
Clear results that show how Critical Communications systems have improved response times, reduced areas of no coverage, and improved staff safety would be an advantage.
Best Innovation Award
Aimed at solutions, products and services in all sectors, this award will recognise examples of true ingenuity.
For this category, please consider:
Has your organisation installed a radiocommunications system that pushes the boundaries of current thinking? Has digital radio revolutionised communications in your business? The Judges will be looking for systems, business cases and solutions that are not commonplace yet have yielded excellent results. Entries will be rewarded for clear reasoning of why they stand out above the rest.
Best Use of Critical Communications for Transport
Best use of Critical Communications in public transport. One of the fastest-growing applications of Critical Communications technology around the world is in transport services - including bus, tram, railway and airport ground operations.
For moving large numbers of passengers efficiently and without delays to their journey, a reliable radio system which can meet voice and data communications needs both during quiet times and in emergencies is essential.
In this category the Judges will look for outstanding technologies and implementations, which effectively meet the particular requirements of these activities.
Best Use of Critical Communications in Utilities
Increased communications needs among utility businesses in industries such as fuel, power and water have encouraged more and more of them to focus on digital radio as a versatile bearer for their voice and data traffic.
This award will highlight an elegant and effective Critical Communications solution within the utilities sector.
Though Critical Communications began as a technology for large-scale radio networks, creative engineering design has brought the functionality and performance benefits of big Critical Communications to the smallest radio installations.
These now include single-site networks serving a locality or simply a workplace, such as a factory or a dockyard. This award is designed as a salute to the best of these small systems.
Best Evolution to Future Broadband
Applicable across solutions, products and services, and all market sectors, this award will be looking for examples of industry-leading innovation and engineering ingenuity in the integration of future broadband capabilities with current or planned wireless solutions, products and services.
Has your organisation developed an integrated broadband system or service that pushes the boundaries of current thinking towards the future world of broadband? Has an integrated narrowband/broadband solution revolutionised the way you operate your business?
The Judges will be looking for candidate entries which reflect the underpinning philosophy of the TCCA’s Critical Communications Broadband Group (CCBG) – i.e. those that are:
based on common, global, mobile broadband technology standards, and which: meet the broadband data needs of Critical Communications users just as reliably as today’s voice and narrowband data do.
Best Use of Control Room Systems
Control rooms and their associated equipment are a critical element in any modern radio network.
Here the judges will be looking for performance, quality and innovation in various aspects of control room systems, including call-handling and dispatcher stations, software, call recording systems, database management and much else.
TCCA Young Engineer of the Year
Computers may have taken over much of the routine, but the human element will remain an indispensable part of designing, building and running critical communications radio systems for the foreseeable future.
Here the judges will seek to reward a young engineer who embodies the technical skills and insight and the inspirational personal qualities, which will help drive critical mobile communications towards a further generation of successes.
Outstanding Contribution to Critical Communications
The Outstanding Contribution to Critical Communications Award seeks to recognise individuals whose work has benefited the critical communications industry as a whole, influenced its development, and have earned the respect and gratitude of their peers many times over.
We invite you to nominate individuals who you know to be ceaseless in their work to drive innovation, quality, and best practice in this sector, and through doing so have helped to significantly improve the safety of first responders and other mission-critical users around the world.
