In today’s increasingly fast-paced and high-tech defence environments, the ability to coordinate resources and disseminate accurate information to personnel is crucial. To solve this task the South Korean Navy chose the TETRA technology for their digitalised Wireless Interior Communication Systems, WIRAS-III, which allows the ship’s crew to communicate wirelessly with each other inside or outside of the ship. WIRAS III uses a VoIP network technology, and its network management software enables fast setup and operation in specific situations such as firefighting, damage control, fuelling at sea and ship operation.
This case study demonstrates that TETRA can provide a reliable service, even under extreme weather conditions and where time is an essence. Under such mission critical environment, TETRA can still meet the high military standards.
