17 Jun 2025
Theatre A: Working Together Internationally for a Safer, More Connected World
Session: Collaboration and Cooperation
- Discussing the “Smart Police Support” (SPS) project for the town of Rome (Roma Capitale) involving the creation of an integrated operational hub for the Local Police and the Civil Protection for the protection of the territory, the management of public safety, emergencies and major events. The project combines the most advanced technologies in key areas such as new generation operations rooms for data intelligence and integration with radio communications (broadband and 5G) thanks to MCX, video surveillance with Trusted Artificial Intelligence algorithms and cyber security capabilities in order to achieve information superiority.
- Mission critical technologies played a decisive role in ensuring the security of the G7 intergovernmental summit held in Borgo Egnazia (Italy) during last June. The Inter-Force Control Room implemented in Brindisi was essential for the coordination of the operations of the Italian Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Penitentiary Police and the Italian Armed Forces. It allowed achieving the convergence of different technological domains (land, sea, air, cyber) as air and naval assets were in use during the event. Over 7,000 operators were overall on the field. The coordination of the resources was managed by 16 dispatchers and 50 operators on duty with a peak of 2000 active terminals and over 400 calls per hour and with more than 10,000 radio calls overall for a total of over 200 hours of conversations. Focusing on design, characteristics and architecture, the technology employed, the supported use case and the challenges and lesson learnt during the project phases.
