Darwin joins Orion network

1/6/2020

The far northern coastal city of Darwin has joined Australia’s nationwide Orion DMR network.

The network uses Motorola Solutions' Capacity Max technology, supporting - according to its operator -, a range of devices including handheld radios, telematics, and smartphones using the WAVE push-to-talk over cellular application. It is compliant with the DMR Tier III standard.

Speaking of the network, a spokesperson said: “Orion has become the proven solution in Australia for critical, uncongested, communication. [It is also used for] almost-immediate data analysis/graphical dashboard display, for the management of industries including aviation, construction, security, utilities, transport and logistics.”

The Orion network’s Darwin spokesman, James Holmes said: “As Australia’s largest commercial radio network operator, Orion is proud to be the first to include Darwin in a national footprint.

“The [compatible] devices enable a range of features such as critical PTT, messaging, man down and emergency duress, GPS and indoor location tracking, voice recording, telemetry and event automation.”

Statistics quoted by the network state that it currently supports 10 million calls per month across Australia.
